Summer, Night, Time.

Mark Hayward

Summer, Night, Time.

For me summer holiday memories are all about bare feet, the sea, the smell of aerogard and barbeques, and long days and warm nights often spent in a caravan park by the ocean. This piece is about all of that, but I also wanted to infuse it with a bit of darkness and mystery …Holiday villages are so full of life and colourful characters by day, but at night when all have gone to bed and secured their temporary little homes, they can be quite strange and creepy…

I love this image. It takes me back to my memories of summer holidays spent in caravan parks, roaming around until late with gangs of other kids…not wanting the summer to end. You have a really eclectic gallery. I love it.

Thankyou for your feedback Rosina…this is actually Evans head, in NSW…but caravan parks do have a wonderful way of being generic in appearance, and therefore universal in their nostalgia.

Great piece, reminded me of time just a couple of months ago when we went camping, and I was taking pictures at night when almost everyone was already asleep, but moon and stars were amazing! I couldn’t help but thinking – why are they sleeping, it’s so beautiful and different now!

Wow, marvellous image. I love the atmosphere, they hyper-reality, the sense something strange is lurking… or was that just you? :-) This could be used as a movie poster for one of those quintessential Aussie moody films like Lantana or Jindabyne – well done.

All day at the beach. Not a wasted moment of daylight and then back to the park.
    Great story here Mark.
