The Lady of the Lake

As Nimue strode toward the shore
She thought upon her recent deed
In wresting Merlins sacred power
Her evil plan might now proceed

While Merlin stood by Arthur’s side
And she stayed locked within her lake
Her quest to have the Holy Grail
Was not a journey she could take

Not sure of what would happen next
She placed one foot at waters edge
And rising up on solid ground
She passed beyond the magic sedge

Emboldened by her new found reign
She danced and sung in evil glee
For she could wander Arthur’s realm
With Merlin trapped inside a tree

“First off I must construct a ruse”
“I’ll seek from Arthur, Balin’s head”
“In payment for Excalibur”
“And take the Grail when both are dead”

To Camelot she went at speed
But Arthur saw her treachery
Sir Balin put her to the sword
An act that set poor Merlin free

The balance was again restored
With Nimue sent back to her lake
Sir Balin banished from the court
And Merlin taught by his mistake.

Artist's Description

Inspired by the excellent work of Sarah Moore and her image The Lady of the Lake

I often write in an archaic voice as I enjoy the flow of the words. On being amazed by the Mists of Avalon series of images, I decided to write this piece.
