King Arthur and the Holy Grail

King Arthur looked upon the Grail
Like trusted friend upon his right
As now it dwelled in Camelot
Would it bring peace or cause to fight

For Templars fight unto their death
In order to protect this cup
From those who seek its sacred power
They will not yield nor give it up

“Excalibur has sealed my fate
As rightful ruler of this realm
Then why should not I hold the cup
I wear the golden sovereigns helm !”

But then he paused to think again
On Galahad’s most sacred plan
“For though I rule this mighty realm
I am but still a mortal man”

“The history of this cup is bathed
In blood of those who held it true
Were I to keep it for myself
My mortal greed I’d one day rue”

He ceased his thoughts with great disdain
And reconciled his regal role
“I must act for the greater good
Or treachery shall take its toll"

“This ancient cup protects us all
And helps me rule with even hand
The golden light of Camelot
Should shine on all throughout this land”

Artist's Description

Inspired by the excellent work of Sarah Moore and her image King Arthur and the Holy Grail

I often write in an archaic voice as I enjoy the flow of the words. On being amazed by the Mists of Avalon series of images, I decided to write this piece.
