Bushfire Sun

Bushfire Sun by Mark Moskvitch

Bushfire Sun

I shot this image in November 06 while working on the fireground during the Blue Mountains fires.

As a rural firefighter (volunteer), it goes without saying that this helicopter, at the time, was a very welcome sight.

Many thanks one and all, for voting this image as the new avatar for the Blue Mountains Group

Jeremy, Barssel….thanks for the comments. I didn’t have time to set the shot up…I only carry a small camera in the field…not taking my SLR out there!!.....so it was one of those lucky moments where the shot sets itself up.

    Thanks again.

    Jerry, Wattle & Claire,

    Many thanks for your comments.

Claire, thanks for the support. There are so many potential images that go unphotographed in and around the fireground, particularly at night, reds – purples – a whole gammut of colours, sadly often no time or too risky to stop for a shot…

Ripper shot Mark! So often I see brilliant shots on the fireground but either seem to have an annoying matter to deal with (like a house that’s about to be engulfed) or I don’t have a camera. Kudos for the brilliant capture! Everything is right and makes for a great foreboding type of pic.

    Will,

Many thanks. I sometimes carry a point and shoot onto the fireground these days….no place for SLR’s out there!!

I too have seen some stunning shots, particularly of a night, and have missed them for want of a camera….I am happy when I can snap an image to show others who may not see what we have seen on the fireground. Thanks again…

what a wild, intense scene, and the helicopter seems so small against the dramatic fire…great capture!
