ANZAC Life Boat No.6
This life boat carried 28 soldiers onto Gallipoli beach on 25 April 1915.
The story of Life Boat No.6 is described in this video from the Australian War Memorial
The story of the ANZACS at Gallipoli can be found here
For mine, on standing and looking at this boat, I started to realise how treacherous the landing must have been.
I have to say that to stand next to and see an actual boat that carried 28 ANZACS ashore that day was almost religious in it’s significance and was, if nothing else, moving.

superbly captured. For me, the words of Ataturk sum up the forgiveness that we would all be wise to heed (see “Known unto God”). I guess some of the young men in this boat would be amongst the heroes to which he referred.

Ranald,
Thanks. Yes, the words of Ataturk, particularly “Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well” are very moving…

I spent a very long time in that War Memorial. It’s an amazing place. Poor bastards !

Sarah,
Many thanks. It is a fascinating place….doesn’t glorify war at all, but gives an insight into why it shouldn’t happen again

Amazing shot and an incredible story.

Helen,
Many thanks, glad you liked it. The whole story around ANZAC is one of the few things Australians treat as a serious and solemn tradition….runs very deep in the national psyche….
