Despite having taken photographs for decades in both North and South America, the Caribbean and in Europe I have only recently come to pay it any sustained serious attention. Pleasant surprises of the “Did I take that?” variety scattered among the boxes of old photos during an occasional review led to a growing curiosity of what might result from investing a bit of concerted effort. The advent of digital cameras contributed to this resurgence with their near instant gratification for successful shots, facilitation of experimentation and costless discarding of the duds. Backing into photography as I have, rather than being able to claim a life-long fervour, makes writing a blurb such as this, inherently a sales piece, handicapped for want of an emotive declaration of high calling. Nevertheless, for me, photography is a highly rewarding pursuit worthy of the stiff learning curve that attends its many technical and artistic facets. With photography, as in many endeavours, the better one gets, the more rewarding it becomes and enthusiasm as well as confidence grows. In theory, such enthusiasm should be reflected in the images themselves and, hopefully, this is evident in the accompanying archive.
