A dreamy moment - the art of headshots by

I was introduced to a fantastic website called “Studio Lighting” and they even have a mobile app for the latest direct to iphone. Check it out here
They had an article on photographing headshots with minimal equipment. Well I clearly listened to none of the advice and rocked up to this test headshoot with everything bar by paper white drop because in my wisdom, decided it was easier to carry a giant white fabric reflector. Well the space on the reflector was limiting as was the eveness of reflection but I was eventually happy with the results. This shot stood out to me simply as it had a dreaminess about it.
For those out of the loop, my model Melia is being treated for Leukemia at the moment and as of tomorrow is going through the most ferocious part of her treatment. It was good to capture one more precious moment before her challenges that are upon her next week.

Photographed with Nikon D700, 105mm Nikon Macro lense, softbox and 2 umbrellas with D400 prolight flashheads.

Featured in “The Photographers Vault”, “The Waist Up”, “The Eyes Have It” and “The Male Photographer” Group

My interest in photography began back in high-school when I used my mother’s Olympus OM-1 to shoot sports events. I learnt to understand film, light meters and other technical issues. I bought my first SLR, a Nikon F70, when I finished uni and became more focussed on shooting portraiture, landscape and photojournalism. Since then I have not looked back opening my own business in 2009 specialising in portrait photography.

Lovely headshot Mark and give Melia our best wishes..

  • Shall do Mark. And thanks. She will be a bit out-of-contact for the next few days but I am sure she will see this shot when she logs on and in turn see your comment. Cheers!

    Amazing Mark. Such a beauty.

  • She is a very pretty model isn’t she! That shot did melt me!! Just something about it… kind of same expression as those old 20s portraits with that similar style hat.
