Melbourne's Icons - the Shot Tower by

Amidst the highrise buildings of Melbourne’s city, icons of a bygone era still exist. Beneath the cone of Melbourne Central, the tower from an old lead shot factory has been encased for future generations to enjoy.

My interest in photography began back in high-school when I used my mother’s Olympus OM-1 to shoot sports events. I learnt to understand film, light meters and other technical issues. I bought my first SLR, a Nikon F70, when I finished uni and became more focussed on shooting portraiture, landscape and photojournalism. Since then I have not looked back opening my own business in 2009 specialising in portrait photography.

Our beloved shot tower. Great shot, almost looks like selective colouring in this one.

  • No selective colouring I swear! Just a lousy cloudy day outside and in reality, as soon as you expose for the building, the sky gets pretty washed out anyway. My only disappointment with the architectural phenomenon is that it is near impossible to photograph this from any other angle then that in which everyone already does. This location is from where the cinema entrance is. Highest point you can get to. If only I knew someone in management that could perhaps get me to the edge of the cone!
