A Tribute to 9/11

One would have to live in a very issolated place to not know about the tragedy of September 11 2001. The terrorist attack on New York was clearly a shock to the world and has been commemorated in many ways. This sculpture donated by Russia commemorates those from New Jersey that were lost in the tragedy.
Featured in “A Place to Call Home”, “Country Bumpkin” and “New York City”

This is a lovely tribute. Happens that 9/11 is my birthday and, as you can imagine, it doesn’t feel like a day to celebrate. Congratulations on your feature.

  • Mark Elshout replied

I was just talking with someone else in the same predicament the other day. Perhaps you should put your celebrations back to Sept 10. Or perhaps you should consider that getting older is just nature and tame the celebrations down a little. Happy birthday anyway!

What a beautiful tribute and a perfect capture! Where is this memorial?

  • Mark Elshout replied

I am glad you like it GraceNotes (must be a musician I take it!) The cruiseships dock near the 34th St Station in New Jersey (Bayonne). It is a long piece of land that juts out into the New York Harbour and at the end of the road into a very industrial looking shipping yard, you will find a small area called the “Green Acres” (at the end of Terminal blvde). In that area stands the memorial and some other tributes. Here is a link to the site via googlemaps
