The Hideaway

The Hideaway

November 2008, above Matlock Bath, Derybyshire UK

I was out with my new lens (the Nikkor 18-200mm VR :D). The lighting was very poor, and I wanted to see how the lens behaved. I saw this building on a previous visit but was never happy with the end result.

The only thing I have played with was hue/saturation. There is no sharpening and no tripod at 1/40.

Nikon D80, ISO800, 1/40, f5.6, 27mm on the 18-200mm Nikkor VR lens, no flash, hand held

nice capture..if only the old cabin could talk… u would be pleased with the lens..looks good

  • Mark Bateman replied

Thanks Raymond. Rather than a cabin, I actually think it’s a shed!

It looks like the cabins we have up in our Dandenong Ranges – but then the people who built them probably saw this in their home country and copied it up in our mountains … but the trees are the same … ?
    Gorgeous shot Mark!
    Bravo! ♥

  • Mark Bateman replied

Thanks very much adgray. I’ve not had a chance to look at your stuff yet but I will. As I mentioned above I think this is actually a shed for it’s next to a proper house!

Ssshhh it’s really the artist’s studio of the person in the house … well if I lived there it would be! Oh to live in that shed and just create to my heart’s content! a small cast-iron potbelly stove/wood fire, a kettle, a microwave, a bar fridge and someone else to do everything else! [including keeping me topped up & getting my stuff out there]
I’d write tombs and tombs and tombs !!! thousands upon thousands of words a day! Book upon Book upon Book!!!!!
    Aaaahhh bliss!
But no perhaps not – I could spend an awful lot of time staring out at the view! ☺
    Chookas! X♥X

Thanks J Chanders. It is a lovely area though the weather of late had made it more difficult to get decent shots – though I have to say the 18-200mm VR lens has helped when I’ve not had a tripod with me!

Such great reminder of home. Many friends lived in hideway homes like this is the Wye Valley. Beautiful. x

Thanks for the look and comment Teacup!
