I will always remember.
We tried, on that day of infamy, we tried to find some part of the normal to hold on to. I taught my morning class, then went to the class I was taking: jewelry making.
One of my classmates had spent the whole morning making glass beads, beautiful beads of red, white, and blue. She sold them to us to raise money for the Red Cross relief of New York and Washington DC. We bought her out as fast as we could open our wallets. And I marveled at the calm presence of mind that showed her what to do, right then, right there, while the rest of us stood stunned.
A pair of earrings and pendant: glass beads (large beads Pat’s, small beads mine) on twisted silver wire.
