Red velvet cake, to be precise, with cream cheese frosting. Yesterday was Mom’s 100th birthday, and though she is celebrating it in heaven, it is just too special an occasion to let it go by without cake.
We didn’t have red velvet when I was a kid; I learned about it in college—one of those enrichment experiences that are so emphasised in the college brochures. I don’t remember whether Mom liked it or not, but I did, and then I saw one yesterday in the supermarket….
