Oh, yeah, I’ve got mail, all right. One phone bill, one bank statement to show me how much my outgo exceeded my income last month, three fine-arts organizations offering me memberships I can’t afford, one out-and-out begging missionary, several sales pitches for goods and services I neither want nor need, and way at the bottom, a coupon book for a local drugstore and gift-shop.
In all of that, not one item that wasn’t part of a bulk mailing. No letters. Not one item that came from an individual person. And only one that had an actual stamp (see it peeking out, there in the middle?), as opposed to a print-on-demand postage mark. No wonder I hate picking up the mail. It’s all bills and spam. There’s more personal connection in my email by far.
The picture was almost as discouraging as the mail itself. So to console myself, I sat down with Photoshop and started learning to use some of the filters. This one is Colored Pencils. The result is far from great artwork, but it is a definite improvement on the original.
Maybe tomorrow’s mail will be better, too. And at least I don’t have to step outside my own front door to collect it, whatever it is.
