This odd fishy creature swims only in the swift streams of the imagination. Here shown in black and white, it is actually colored—some specimens quite brightly—and the tail fin, which is always green, contains chlorophyll, which leads to speculation that this creature may be able to photosynthesize some or all of its own nourishment.

The faceted structures on either side of the head are not eyes, but ears; the series of spots down the middle of the body are photosensitive, and the slits on either side are gills.
