Part of two of my permanent themes: Look down! and Covered (see below).

Sometimes what’s underground dictates what must happen above ground…

Whole sewer access constructions do not get replaced just because the street above is going to be re-profiled – so the curb of the sidewalk has to make a little detour for the manhole (and its cover). Even though for cars this is a dead-end street, it’s obvious car tires have worn the cover more than human feet.

 
Covered is about the covers that give (or deny) access to the world below our pavings, especially in our cities, and how they are placed in, or clash with, the pavement. At the very least these covers prevent us from tripping or falling into holes.
