Bulunkul. A weather station, a few houses around it for the people who serve it and a few others who serve them. Right in the middle of absolutely nowhere (but a very spectacular nowhere) on the high plateau of the Pamirs.
And in this tiny village, at the end of a small side road of the Pamir Highway (not what you think) a really surprising amount of old rust. My guess is once vehicles break down here, they simply get cannibalized for anything usable, and then left – what’s left has no value any more, and transporting it away would be too expensive.
This is just one striking example; all three wheels missing, definitely not in working order any more. How did it even get here? My mind is making up stories, I’ll leave you to make up your own…
