About my techniques, I use acrylics on illustrationboard for this kind of work, so I can work smooth and add texture if needed.
I like to use all kinds of brushes and even my fingers. If you look closely, you can see my fingerprints in a lot of parts of my paintings. I might do a step by step some day and post it on my website.

Illustration boars are pressed boards that you can use to paint and airbrush on. You can erase, scratch and paint on it without damaging the surface (of course it has it’s limits). I usually take Schoellershammer G4, or clayboard. R4 is rough G4 is smooth.
