Woodcut: Pelicanus Conspicillatus by

Hand printed on 280gsm Hahnemulle rough paper
Hand inked, relief method
After printing this one i cut up the woodblock plate into several pieces so i could print them in a range of colours but in retrospect i think this untouched version worked best. Hindsight is such a useful thing…not!

The text is carved in the International Phonetic Alphabet – I was aiming for a runes look.

blue, hand printed, pelican, water birds, woodcut

My specialities are watercolour painting and printmaking. Further enquiries?

All works are hand painted or hand printed onto fine quality paper. Marion uses Arches 300gsm rough paper, Saunders Waterford 300gsm cold pressed paper for her watercolours and for each unique state print, the paper is either BFK Rives 280gsm cream paper or Hahnemulle rough 280gsm.

All enquiries welcome.

If it’s beautiful here, it has to be beautiful in real life! We’re all rootin’ for you. Your art seems so time consuming. How long does it actually take to prepare a woodcut like this?

  • thanks for your support walela! the woodcut takes a few days to carve out and then the printing takes a few days to get it right and then there’s the mixing of the inks and the clean up and the hiring of a studio with a large enough press…but technically you could produce this in a week but i never do as i stop and adjust and stop and fiddle and it can take me weeks to get a print i am happy with. xx
