Beautiful work, Marion. I really like the way you’ve made the variation of three lines as the horizontal separation, as opposed to the single vertical separation line. Great simplicity of images, expressing the 4 seasons in a wonderfully concise way. Love the blue-gray you’ve chosen to print this in – for me a representation of air and sky.

This is a lovely Linocut print! Often what I find with work produced by linocut is that they end up being thick lined drawings; as thin lines are hard to achieve. I remember a classmate in my grade 10 art class saying “my branches are turning into twigs!”, however you obviously have good control; you would need a lot of patience to cut aroung those little circles; plus your lines are very fine; which means you must have carved out long bits at a time (which produces nicer lines, but it requires good control and I know a lot of people who cut themselves from doing that) as opposed digging out bit by bit.

You are so right about the control i needed for those circles. In fact this is ‘4 seasons’ mark II and when i produced the linocut above i had already practiced making most of the marks and knew what not to do though i still cut a big gouge out of my finger in the process. Thanks for you comments Mui-LIng.

This is beautiful! My first idea when I saw it in thumbnail was ‘a pattern for handworks’... Now you have to know that I’m keen on handworks :) Very nice theme, and so well done!
