Summer Leaves

Summer Leaves by Marion Chapman

Summer Leaves

100% Watercolour on Arches 300gsm, full sheet.

I stretched the paper using a staple gun, a method i have been experimenting with. The stretching was essential for this painting due to the vast amount of water and layers of glazes – probably about 20 layers.

Original sold May, 2008

Beautiful. The effect of the glazing gives lovely depth and colour.

    Wow, really beautiful!
I was wondering, did you wash the paper before staple?

  • Marion Chapman

Marion Chapman in reply to Markus Kunschak’s comment, 4 months ago

Yes, in fact I soaked it in the bath for a good 15 minutes to ensure it was completely soaked before stapling and then I began the underpainting while it was still very wet.
Thanks for your great comment too.

I am very impressed you used so many layers. I have always been too tentative to add more than 3 over washes. I will study this longer. Good work.
