Organic Combo
A combination of an etching and linocut embossment.
25cm X 28cm on BFK Rives
Etching on zinc plate – hard ground (for main shapes), soft ground (for textures) followed by a deep bit for added zing. Inked up in black only.
Linocut embossment – much easier: cut up the pieces of lino to match the size of the zinc plate and cut into the lino then emboss the wet paper.
No aligning needed as i ran them through the press concurrently.

What a great idea that paid off! I actually thought the etched image was actually the plate.

Wow! You call it embossment. (I don’t know anything about art techniques other than oil and watercolor.) This is really beautiful.

Very interesting technique; especially love the relief. First time seeing this kind of linocut embossment; I want to try it some day!

This is true art! Wonderful works!

This is really beautiful Marion, and such an interesting process. For the linocut embossing – do you mean that the blank areas around the raised areas are all cut away, so that when you impress the wet paper its just the feathery images that bite into the paper? Sorry to be so dumb, but I’m a beginner linocutter, and haven’t tried all these other processes yet, but would love to!

Marion Chapman replied
Hi Denise. Yes, you are exactly right. Embossment is the wet paper being pushed into the recesses of the lino. Thanks for your lovely comments.
Denise Martin
Hi Marion how did you manage to get those areas cut away, so smooth? I can’t see any impression marks at all!
