Whippets, belonging to the ‘sighthound’ family, are very quiet and gentle medium sized dogs that are often content to spend much of the day resting.
Whippets are extremely affectionate and loyal to their owners, often displaying ‘cat-like’ behaviours. They are known to be very sensitive to the mood of their owners, and will behave accordingly. A smaller version of a greyhound, whippets are often used as pet therapy dogs due to their gentle nature and sound temperament.
Despite their preferred ‘couch potato’ existence, whippets are among the fastest of dogs running a course at 36 mph (approximately 58 km/h) and can run 200 yards in under 12 seconds.
Health wise, whippets are also one of the soundest dog breeds seen by vets, as they don’t typically suffer from any major hereditary diseases.
