Artist's Description

To make an Antique Silk Dahlia:

1. Start at the centre, ensuring you create a little star with the first row of petals

2. Next, take each little petal and fold gently and carefully into a shape like a square napkin that is ready for a wedding dinner

3. Tuck in tightly, to ensure it stays, and tuck very close together as there are thousands to fit in

4. Test the first few petals to ensure when they unfold, no pleats or wrinkles are showing

5. As you tuck in the petals further out, start to unfurl the little folds, revealing long thin tubes, with folded back edges

6. Place each little flower on the stalk of a dahlia, for the enjoyment of the bees and butterflies

7. Repeat as necessary to keep each dahlia blooming all season
