Mixed Media: Acrylic and collage on canvas board.
I found the image of the Persil ad on the Internet and hand painted it in acrylics. I collaged a photo of the little manual washing machine in Darling Museum (Darling, South Africa) on top of my painting and overpainted it.
I am old enough to remember Persil ads from my childhood days. Who would have guessed that it was first manufactured in Vietnam?

WOAH!!! now there’s a blast from the past. Thats a name I havent heard in many years :)
Thank you, Wayne. Do you remember the two boys in school shirts in one of the other Persil ads?
– Marie Theron
Yes I believe i do..its rather vague now but some of the images I do remember. My mom used Persil for many many years..that and Lux if you remember that one :) Marie you have bought back many memories of a time long gone for me…..xx
Hi Wayne, a little boy in a dull-looking school shirt gets almost whiplash as another guy walks past in his bright white shirt! I loved that ad!
And Lux flakes, yes! You can see a packet here in my pic sitting on the old washing machine!

Thank you Marie for pointing that out to me.. I never noticed it..just the big red persil name. I got another for you as well. “Rinso” All these names are returning to me after all these years. :)
……..and those blue cubes for adding to washing, was it Reckitt’s Blue? Look, these are sure giveaways of the era we grew up in!

Thank you Geraldine!
