it is interesting that one person can hold such seemingly opposing characteristics, but often, upon closer inspection, ‘high ideals’ are generated from the same contempt for self that is projected onto others-where, in a world of shame and failure, no one escapes-not even the ‘faithful’.

individuals who have experienced extreme spiritual abuse have often been abused in other ways by the the perpetrators of the spiritual abuse. sexual abuse and physical abuse are often reported as having been perpetrated by the same individuals that demanded extreme religiosity from their victims.
