Aries (?) (meaning “ram”) is the first astrological sign in the Zodiac, which spans the zodiac between the zero degree and the 29th degree of celestial longitude. The Sun enters Aries when it reaches the northern vernal equinox, which is usually on March 21 each year, and remains in this sign until around April 20 (sometimes the dates vary slightly). Individuals born during these dates, while the Sun is within this sign, are called Arians or Ariens.
In Hellenistic astrology, the sign of the ram was mythologically associated with the golden winged ram that rescued Phrixos and his sister Helle from the altar where they were to be offered as a sacrifice to Zeus. The golden ram carried them to the land of Colchis but on the way Helle fell into the sea and drowned. When Phrixos arrived at Colchis he sacrificed the ram to Zeus and presented the golden fleece to his father-in-law, the King of Colchis. The fleece was then hung upon a sacred oak and guarded by a dragon until rescued by Jason and the Argonauts. The myth recounts that Zeus was so moved by the ram’s fate that he gave it the greatest honour of being moved to the heavens.
Aries live life head first; after all, those horns on your head are not just for fighting. Their headstrong nature can make them a “battering ram” and woe is the person who stands in their way.
Aries are noted for courage and leadership qualities, primarily because they are nearly always ready for action. The need for excitement pushes them into new territory — and as long as they are ahead of others while demonstrating confidence, chances are that they will follow them. As self-ordained leader of the pack, Aries fight for what they believe to be important. But it’s not that Aries are fearless. Theircourage is more of a commitment to face their fears and overcome them.
Aries motto is “Ready, fire, aim!” It may be backwards for others, but they’d rather figure out what to do while they are doing it. Impulsive actions, however, can bring them their share of trouble. While others are gathering information to make informed decisions, they are already on their way. As such, they could suffer from false starts. In fact, Aries are so good at starting things that they can be off onto their next project before completing the previous one. As Aries mature, they learn to slow down their reaction time in order to think about the consequences of their actions.
Aries tend to live adventurous lives and like to be the center of attention, but rightly so since they are natural, confident leaders. Aries are enthusiastic about their goals and enjoy the thrill of the hunt, “wanting is always better then getting” is a good way to sum it up.
