It might be hard to believe, but Please Please Me, The Beatles’ debut album, was released 50 years ago today. It was March 22, 1963, when the LP was rushed out by Parlaphone, and it went on to spend thirty weeks in the UK album charts. This would be the start of a phenomenon few could have anticipated: within 18 months the band had not only conquered Europe and America, but much of the world.

I was serving my country in the greater London area at the time. They were the ‘rave’ in London and were making their first debut at the Paladium… but…unfortunately, I was a wee bit skint and by the time I could go, they were sold out! However, I returned stateside in mid ’65 and it was after that when The Beatles set foot in the USA and made their TV Debut on the Ed Sullivan show… which I saw!
Beautiful work, Marie, and thanks for the memories! :-))))

  • So many great memories for so many of us…..the best Rock and Roll band of all times….who changed everything…hard to believe it was 50 years ago…..how time flies! So glad it brought back wonderful memories Peter…thank you my friend!! Have a great weekend! ;-)))

Just wonderful work, friend……‘Silently closing the bedroom door, leaving a note which she hoped would say more….’….goodness, wonderous retro-delights. I can even remember exactly where I was when first hearing ‘Please Please Me’. Legendary band, but I wish these days Macca would stop while he’s winning…..the recent Olympics and his musical contribution were rightly considered grim ;-) Now go back to Sergeant Pepper, possibly the greatest LP/CD ever??…. As always, superb image, beautiful work!! ‘Bye..bye’. xxx
    Dave

  • I have to agree with you…Sergeant Pepper has to be the greatest album of all times!!! Gosh!…I’ve listened to it sooooo many times…and still do…I’ve got all the songs tattooed on my brain!! I have to say…I was a little young to remember where I was 50 years ago when “Please Please Me” was released….but not too long after that, I fell head over heels for this legendary band….and the rest is history!! Thank you dear Dave…I know I will always have an attentive hear in you where music is concerned!! Happy weekend my friend! xx
