This is the most beautiful and unusual graveyard I have ever seen. This churchyard and church is probably Cornwall’s most photographed and arguably the most beautiful. The 13th century St Justus church is perched on the edge of a tidal creek of the Percuil river with numerous paths leading from the churchyard to coastal footpaths and is about 2 miles from St Mawes.

The vegetation in this churchyard is virtually tropical. A 19th century vicar brought in many tropical plants, some of which are rare to England and the combination of the waters edge and the wonderful flowers and shrubs in the churchyard are what gives the church its uniqueness.

The church is on the site of a 5th century chapel, the churchyard slopes steeply upwards behind the church.

I sat watching the crows swooping and diving as they gathered to roost for the night, the sound of caw caw really loud, it reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds”. There are two images merged together using the multiply blend mode.
