In Flander’s Fields was written by a Canadian doctor, John McCain from Guelph, Ontario, After the loss of a friend who was only 22 years old during WW1, he penned the poem In Flander’s Fields:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

So many wars since then. This poppy is dedicated to each and every person who has gone to the brink, some returned, some not..this is for you.

dedication, remembrance day, in memoriam, poppy, macro

I have practing photography here on RB for a few years and get a kick out of shooting nature, flower macros, my West Highland White Terrier, Brody or anything that catches my eye. A great addiction!

Hi, Marian:>) We had to learn “In Flander’s Fields” – it had great impact even then when we were so young. At that time most of us had Dads who fought in WW11 and many did not come home.

  • yes, I know it well!
I just discovered this on Youtube and it appears the poem has been mispresented all these years!
to Flander’s Fields the way it was really intended!
