Pastel over watercolour on Fisher 400 pastel paper 49cm x 67cm.
The concept of this pastel work is purely fictional…..I love this coloured cow(she is real) and decided to place her high above the plains below, on the lookout, literally. The inspiration for the plains below came from my years of living on the edge of the Liverpool Plains in NSW. which were the inspiration for Dorothea McKellar’s “I Love A Sunburnt Country”. The area was(before mining) well known for cropping and livestock, so I have included on the plains, my impressions of the crops I was familiar with ie.sorghum & canola, as these particular colours tie in well with the colours of the cow.
I have used a combination of pastel pencils and pastel sticks over a watercolour underpainting to minimise dust, due to my ongoing health issues.
