Oil painting on canvas, a copy of a Eugene Delacroix painting, approx. 20ins x 16ins. I have always loved the original painting, since I was a child. This long standing attachment was all the inspiration I needed to attempt this work. The original Delacroix painting is in the Louvre, Paris, France.
Won a juried New York on-line oil painting contest in 2009.
Won the Oil Painting Group Challenge ‘After An Artist’ Aug. 2009.

    Thanks Phillip. I wish I had a better photo of this one, but it was taken with an old camera. The painting was a gift to my Mum so I’ll have to get a better photo one day.

    wow, just wow, this is pretty magnificanet, this looks like sometihng one of the old masters would have painted during the renissance. all the lines are so soft and fluid, you don’t see things like this very much, very traditional.

    Thanks Karly, it is a copy of a painting that was painted around that era by Eugene Delacroix who was considered to be a forerunner of French impressionism. He did some great stuff.

    Hi Graham. This painting was done in a fairly loose, impressionistic style, so didn’t take too long. The detail is done fairly quickly. A lot of my horse paintings, still life paintings and landscapes were done this way too. They look detailed but are actually painted loosely and quickly. My drawings are the same. It can be a lot of fun (sometimes).........

    Thats extraudinarily beautiful man ! A real gift. I find trying to get anything realistic I constantly have to re-work. Sometimes quite frustratingly !
