St Mary’s church was consecrated on 1 June, 1848. Constructed of stone the furnishings are made of cedar. Widely known as the Woolpack Church because of its proximity to a hotel of the same name which was the scene of an encounter between the bushranger, Martin Cash, and the police.

In the mid 1880’s St Mary’s was the scene of a most romantic elopement involving Mary Spode (of the famous Spode pottery family)
