Opera Blues by Marguerite Foxon
Clear

I love the Sydney Opera House and have photographed it many times, along with a gazillion others, including many who upload to RB. Im always looking for an angle that is different yet still preserves the essential architecture of this iconic building. Best viewed in the larger format.

Handheld, Nikon D90 112.0m f/8 1/1000s ISO800

I love macro abstract work of rejected and neglected items in our society, especially rusty old dumpsters (skips) around the back of buildings, battered boats up on dry dock, rotting wood, bark of trees, and so on. Im fascinated by the color and texture that appears with a macro lens. I do almost no post-processing after taking the shot.

Hi Marguerite, I would love to photograph the Opera House, but eventhough I have been there, I haven’t had my camera with me. This image is excellent, it could look good in black and white too.

  • Thanks Wayne. I have looked at it in B&W but it didnt ‘pop’. You’ll have to take your camera next time in Sydney – you’d have a ball with this building!

Perfectly proportioned in its composition Marguerite. Unbelievably difficult to get an original take on the Opera House but you’ve done it here- it is just so perfectly balanced with that central panel and the colours. One of your best methinks.

  • Thanks Geoff. Yes, its a bit of a different angle, which is what I was trying to get. thanks for your kudos! And the fav!

Great & refreshing view of the S.O.H. Your right R.B. is satuarated w/ many nice postcard pics of this truly historic and identifiable landmark, however your creative pic is wonderful & showcases the gorgeous patterns & colors-nicely done!

  • Thanks Ron for your great comment. I find it a real challenge to shoot a building that is so well known and over-photographed and yet come up with something that captures its essence but doesnt look like the usual shot.

i recently kept coming across this image, but never click on it, sorry mate, didnt realize it was the very talented miss margo
i love the way you have seen such world iconic building, and made it unreconiazble.
i wouldnt have guessed it was the opera house at all
detailing, shapes, shades of gray working perfectly in harmony

  • Well you pay me the highest compliment by saying you did not recognize it because that was what I was trying to do, yet when you know it is the Opera House it is instantly recognizable. thanks friend!
