Fronds at Dusk
Sago Palm fronds emerging this spring, in Florida. Taken as the sun was beginning to set behind the palm (which is really a large bush, not a tree with a trunk like most palms), the light giving them a translucent look. 105mm macro on tripod f14 1/10 ISO200

I love these closeups of parts of plants. I also love painting and art in general, but photographing nature you are photographing perfection. A beautiful photograph Marguerite.

Hi Marguerite
Re use of Nikon cameras and lenses, I will tell you a little story. As a former Aussie you will no doubt know that the main Queensland newspaper is the Courier Mail. Back in 1976, I was fortunate to be sponsored on a study tour of the United States and Canada by the Utah Development Foundation. I didn’t have a decent camera at the time and didn’t really know much about them. A person I knew at the time was a staff photographer with the Courier Mail, so I phoned him and asked his advise. I remember it well. It went something along the lines of, “Ian, any of the well known brands are good and will take good quality photographs. But, you will find that most press photographers will use Nikons because they tend to be more rugged and will take those extra bumps”. From then on Marguerite, I started taking notice of all the photographs of press photographers photographing. And, Ted Holliday was indeed right, just about all of them used Nikons. So, I purchased my first Nikon and have used them ever since …, besides why would anyone change brands when all the lenses you have accumulated would not be compatible with the new brands?
Marguerite Foxon
Like you I started with a Nikon when I first went to PNG on business about 1985. Have stuck with them ever since. However, in the US about 90% of the press photographers use Canon, and certainly all sports photographers do. I still think Nikon lens have the edge though.
