Close-up of the beautiful seeds of the Cape Reed Grass (Restionaceae) – During the winter, my Cape Reed Grass sports the most magnificent seed clumps and when picked, make a gorgeous arrangement in a tall glass vase – at the moment some of them are over 5ft. tall and it’s pure joy to watch the birds clinging to them, having a snack.

This grass is indigenous to the Cape of South Africa.

Breathless,
we flung us on a windy hill,
Laughed in the sun,
and kissed the lovely grass.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.
