An almost 40m-tall, 210-year old blue Gum tree (Eucalyptus) with a diameter of almost 11 meters, planted in 1902 on a farm in Magaliesburg (Gauteng, South Africa). It still stands proud, until… when?

Nature has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease and a thousand tempests and floods. But she cannot save them from fools.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

Wow! It looks huge! What a great capture, Maree! Do you have a shot of the full tree?

  • Thanks Dot. Yes, it’s huge and I do have a shot of the whole tree, had to stand far back to get it all in. I’ll add it under the description.

Wow, what a beauty… let’s hope it’s a long while before a shopping mall is needed at this location.

  • I don’t think it’ll be a shopping mall Jim, this is quite far out in the country, but some farmer might just decide it’s in the way of lands he wants to plant….
