green and tawny gold tall grasses . swaying in the breeze
a tumbled tangled garden . that needs cutting down
everywhere I look . love and gratitude follow

During the winter, my Cape Reed Grass sports the most magnificent seed clumps and when picked, make a gorgeous arrangement in a tall glass vase – at the moment some of them are over 5ft. tall and it’s pure joy to watch the birds clinging to them, having a snack.

This grass is indigenous to the Cape of South Africa.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

Excellent capture Maree.. the seeds are really beautiful…

  • Thank you very much Andrea! Very unusual for some of the seeds to be in the middle of the stalk, don’t you think?
