The Magalies River on its way to Hartebeespoort Dam (Gauteng, South Africa)
as winter fades to spring
hangers-on will be forced to let go,
making room for new growth
Well, now that we’ve passed the Winter Solstice here in South Africa, I’m sure we’re all looking forward to Spring, which is not that far off, if we’re lucky, about 6 weeks. I know the 1st of September is officially supposed to be Spring, but apart from the wind in August (which is SO necessary to clear away all the old growth and debris), I always jump for joy as August approaches because that’s when the plants come to life again, defying any cold that might still be in the air.
