W&N watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm

  1. Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There’s plenty of movement, but you never know if it’s going to be forward, backwards, or sideways.
    - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Let me introduce you to Kiki and Tweeti, my two Cockatiels. Kiki, on the left, has a gentle, soft nature, while Tweeti, on the right, is Cocky and full of himself! They were originally sold to me as a pair, a male and female, but it later turned out they were both males and I had to separate them as Tweeti totally dominated Kiki and even attacked him from time-to-time. But he provides endless hours of pleasure with his antics, singing to himself and sidling along his stick, pecking and shaking his bell every time he passes it!

They are about 12 years old and have been with me here in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa, since they were a couple of weeks old.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

    Love the saying!! ;-)
Love the beautiful painting even more!!
(hoekom weet ek nie van hulle bestaan nie?!)

  • A gal has to have some secrets! lol! I don’t know, never thought of sketching them until now! I did put some pics on FB at one stage, but I might have removed them again. They share space with Danny in my bird room, each one in their own cage, and they’re part of the back-ground noise, like the Rock Pigeons on the roof!

…..and Archie is sitting on my shoulder as I write this. Really love this painting Maree :-)

  • Aaaaw, how sweet Lisa! I presume he’s a male, with a name like Archie! What is his colouring? Kiki is Grey and Tweeti pure white.

yes they are wonderful birds…yes they are cheeky and entertaining!!!…wonderful drawing…yes i have a Tweeti too …i think he/she is approx 10-12yrs old!!!

  • Wow Shylie, it seems they have quite a long life-span! To tell the sexes apart, the male’s cheeks are a bright orange, whereas the female’s cheek patch is much lighter, but you need two birds to compare! Smile!

Archie is actually a girl….long story…she is beautiful and is a grey just like your little Kiki. Yes, they are amazing little birds….Archie is still perched on my shoulder and spends most of her time on ME!!!. Lovely to meet your birds, Kiki and Tweeti. :-))))))

  • Oh yes, I know about those male names that end up being for females! I had a Pategonian Conure, Patterson, who ended up having to be Patti!
