I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

Interesting, the way you compose such a piece; and, the way you take very careful note of light/highlights/shadows! ;-)

It has long been my own observance; that a really good artist doesn’t just draw anything and everything just any way?! Instead, when they draw/paint it’s always with tremendous precision and care. The reason why a lot of my own drawings/paintings go wrong is I just tend to draw/paint without even thinking about what I’m doing; there is very little planning, indeed; and, as to considering light/shade/careful composition; well, simply, forget it! That’s the ‘big’ difference between a good artist/and, a bad artist; too much hurrying, I guess.

  • Well, this was just going to be a chair, then I got carried away with adding details! Planning, shading and lighting certainly play a big part in the composition of a piece, but you must also remember that “stuff happens” with watercolours, that’s what makes it SO exciting! I think there’s a time and place for everything, drawing or painting without even thinking what you’re doing can be very liberating and give some surprisingly beautiful effects. Thanks for the fav her Paul, appreciate that!

Maree, you’re a woman full of heart and soul…beautiful watercolour…I love your accompanied philosophy and words!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful week with peace and love always, Lisa =)XO

  • Ah Lisa, thank you for your beautiful words, that really touched my heart! Our week here in South Africa has started off with freezing temperatures, rain, hail and snow! And my Peach tree is already dressed in her little pink blossoms! But we will nevertheless enjoy this last effort of winter before spring emerges! Oh, and thank you for the fav, much appreciated!
