“My advice to the women is to raise more hell and fewer dahlias!”

Did you that flowers have their own secret code? All flowers have specific flower meanings, which symbolize one feeling or another. When giving flowers as a gift, you’ll likely want to take these flower meanings into consideration. Ranging from true love, to friendship, to gratitude, to goodbye.

In the Language of Flowers, Dahlia means:

• Elegance
• Dignity

Dahlias are native to Mexico and South America. Dahlias and chrysanthemums are closely related and often hard to tell apart. Dahlias have hollow stems, their leaves are smooth, usually with points, whereas chrysanthemum leaves are soft, with rounded edges. An individual Dahlia flower can have up to 300 petals. Dahlia Flower season begins in early spring and continues though summer into early fall, and there are currently 35 recognized species. Aztecs used parts of the Dahlia for food and medicines.

“If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden.”
— W. Beran Wolfe

Lovely image Maree. We have had such weird weather that our dahlias flowered alongside the spring flowers, died off and are now producing a second crop of buds. 2 for the price of 1 as the bargain stores say. Alma x

  • Thanks Alma. I haven’t planted Dahlias for ages, must really give it a go again… I think maybe I’m raising too much hell instead!
