An African scene by Maree Clarkson

W&N watercolour on Visual 200gsm

  1. Did you hear of the pig who began hiding garbage In November?
She wanted to do her Christmas slopping early!

Warthogs (Phacochoerus aethiopicus) are widely distributed, and presently not threatened in South Africa. They still occur naturally on farms throughout the range, and is being re-introduced into the areas where they have become locally extinct. They are also found in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania.

They occur in open savannah around water holes and marshy areas throughout the Kruger National Park. They feed mainly on grass and roots, but also take bulbs, fruits, carrion, insects, scorpions, earthworms, centipedes and bones.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

FABULOUS!!! I adore these little warthogs, the way the stick up their tails like flags when they run is such a hoot. I love the little poem too, suits their comical personas perfectly. Alma xx
We played our DVD of our Africa trip last evening, it was lovely to see it all again. xx

  • Thank you Mrs. S, much appreciate the fav as well! As I said before, I think you need to up-date your DVD and all your photographs with another visit! And then, besides visiting all your favourite Game Lodges, you can book into the Valley Lodge about 10km from us so we can spend some time together!

That would be a dream come true, we are working on it. If the corrupt bankers hadn’t ruined it financially for everyone the spend would not be an issue but the finite income of pensioners is reliant on the honesty of the financial powers that be!! Alma xx

  • It WOULD be a dream come true! But it’s the same here Alma, our economy has gone to the dogs through all the government fund ‘misappropriations’ they call it. Our interest rates have dropped tremendously, which is fine if you’re heavily in debt, but if you’re relying on your investments, it has become a joke… See you soon…!

  • Yet it’s funny that the UK is giving MILLIONS to Somalia to help with the drought, they haven’t grasped the concept yet of ‘teach the people to fish, don’t give them fish’.

This is the cutest little painting!!!! Warthogs are really pretty ugly, but not these!

I didn’t realize that the UK & Africa were feeling the economic crunch as well. I think the whole world is going down the tubes. I personally believe that we’re at a point of no return.

  • Ah, thank you Marsha, they’ll be pleased to hear your compliment! I’ve heard that the US is having a tough time, and the UK I don’t know much about, but things have to turn around SOME time. Maybe 2012 will clean the slate! smile!
