W & N Watercolours on Bockingford 300gsm – 12″ × 8″

Tools lined up in satisfying rows, scissors and twine within arm’s reach, a sink just for arranging flowers—the potting area ranks up there with the mudroom and flower room as the ultimate country fantasy. Don’t think you have space for one? You may want to think again.

My potting shed here in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa, consists of an old carport, walled on two sides, with shelves on the walls and a couple of old tables and benches to make life comfortable. Wheelbarrows, hats, watering cans, terracotta pots and all sorts of paraphernalia to use in the garden is stored here. All you need is a little corner, partially protected from the elements, and Bob’s your uncle!

“If we love our children
we must love the earth with tender care
and pass it on, diverse and beautiful,
so that on a warm spring day
10 000 years hence
they can feel peace in a sea of grass,
can watch a bee visit a flower,
can hear a sandpiper call in the sky,
and can find joy in being alive.”

    Dear Maree,
This is a lovely painting. I love the way terra cotta comes alive under your brush. I have been corresponding with Alamaalice( such a lovely lady and wonderful photographer) and she suggested I look out for you. I have recently posted a couple watercolours here on bubble and would love any input or suggestions you might have.
    Really lovely work you have
    ~Kest

  • Hi Kest, thank you for your lovely compliment, and for having a look at my art, I really appreciate that! Ah, lovely Alma, a wonderful friend here on RB! Are you also from the UK? Had a look at your portfolio, and you are building up a wonderful collection, especially like your Alpine Lake, beautiful soft colours! Keep on posting and learning from RB, wonderful inspiration to be found here!
