“A new season is unfolding – like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within.”

My Cacti put up the most spectacular show of flowers last spring (2010) and I’m hoping to get some beautiful shots again this year. They were an absolute delight to the insects, with sweet nectar accumulating at the base of the flower, luring ants, bees, flies, and even a few wasps.

They are mostly used as ornamental plants, but some are also crop plants for fodder, forage, fruits, cochineal, and other uses. Numerous species have been used since ancient times by indigenous peoples for their psychedelic effects!

Hi Maree, you should be taking more photos – you have the real skill :) Cacts are my tropical love flowers. I’ll tell you a short story. I was a youn child and we were heating the house thing buning shreded wood. Now, this kind of stove was getting red when was heated up. I can’t remember how, but I got from somebody a cact plant, and I was told they love warm. So, with my child head, I placed it under the stove. Evidenly, the poor plant died very soon :) I still remember it; it was like yesterday. On the other hand I have a short term memory – can’t remember what I ate yesterday. How funny is that :))

  • Aaaah, thanks Mary! But I’d much rather paint them! Smile! And that poor cactus under your stove, I wonder what it thought of the sudden, intense heat?! lol!
