Coffee and W&N watercolours in sketch-book with hand-made satin-finish linen paper

the modern woman | bereft | without internet

Yesterday my internet was off the whole day! I felt like an addict that hasn’t had his “daily fix”! But I actually got quite a bit done; some filing, working in the garden and most wonderful of all, painted to my heart’s content! Six all together, counting the small sketches like this one, which is done with watercolour pencils in a beautiful little Hand-made sketchbook (7″ × 5″), which I bought in Durban (South Africa), filled with linen satin-finish pages. Using the pencils on this new medium was quite a challenge, as one cannot fiddle or wet the page too much as it tends to soak right through. I also couldn’t do any pencil sketching, as trying to rub out the pencil marks afterwards, lifts the fibres and leaves big, rough patches.

Luckily we always have something else to comfort us! I love the bright yellow and light blue colour of this “daily fix” of yours, very attractive indeed.

  • Yea, sketching and coffee is always a great consolation Liz! Thanks for your lovely comment!

Fascinating description. I salute your efforts in trying out ‘new’ mediums. Wonderful drawing/painting, as usual. Makes me wanna go and try doing still lifes, now! ;-)

I know what you mean about not having the internet for a while. Makes me crazy, but then….I, too, accomplished a lot when mine when out, which tells me I am on the net too much! You obviously DID accomplish quite a bit and this is really very nice. Using this medium/paper takes courage and what an excellent job you did!

  • It’s a catch 22 situation Deb, when I’m on the internet, I get behind at home, when I’m off the internet, I get behind on RB! Pleased you like this one and thank you for your heart-warming comment!

Another fantastic creation Maree. Wow, yeah isn’t it crazy how we feel when we are cut off from technology! Look at what you did though, just shows us what we can achieve in other ways. Love the cheerful yello coming through. Enjoy your little book! Gosh so many memories of Durbs!!!

  • It’s traumatic not being connected Sharry! But maybe we spend way too much time in the virtual world… Thanks a lot and glad you had memories of Durban!
