All the original art done with coffee (some with watercolour added) on Bockingford 300gsm watercolour paper.
A bit of explanation about the use of coffee as a painting medium: I came upon Barbara Glatzeder’s art here on RedBubble and was fascinated by her use of coffee, so I followed suit and did a couple of paintings myself. I’ve been using Nescafé instant, made VERY strong! and am slowly learning about how it behaves under certain conditions, like when it’s hot or when it’s cold – Barbara did mention that it dries quicker when it’s hot, so every time I’m in a hurry, I run for the microwave to heat it up a bit! I’ve also learnt (as you can see from the dark parts on the crow – the month of March) that you shouldn’t paint over the coffee when it’s still wet – first the coffee disappears and then a big mess results! The secret is to use coffee to mix your watercolours, and not the usual water!
