Coffee and watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm
“Creative people, however, need to be stimulated, inspired, nudged, cross-pollinated, and occasionally kicked in the ass. Art both entertains and inspires at the same time.”
I think I’m getting the hang of using coffee and watercolours together – for this exercise I did the whole background in coffee (using Nescafé instant, black and VERY strong!), waiting for it to dry completely before attempting to add any other colours. Then I used coffee to mix the watercolours, resulting in an easy flow, and not lifting the coffee as it does when you use water to moisten the watercolours. Whoot whoot! The coffee also imparts a rich sheen to the watercolours, and it’s actually thick and almost creamy when painting with it.
Sterling Edwards (Jerry’s Artarama) says, “It all begins with an idea and a burning passion to create and express. That is the true artist. Everything else is merely technique”, and I tend to agree with him!
