Watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm – 12″ × 8″

People in suburbia see trees differently than foresters do.  They cherish every one. It is useless to speak of the probability that a certain tree will die when the tree is in someone’s backyard …. You are talking about a personal asset, a friend, a monument, not about board feet of lumber.

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

Lovely image as ever and the prose is so true. The garden beyond ours has three magnificent oak trees and they were the final clincher in our purchase of the house. We designed our garden to be a low maintenance shrubbery with a clearing and a waterfall, just to give the trees their dignity and homage. They bring us such pleasure, whistling in the wind, changing the light value depending on the time of day, housing dozens of birds and squirrels, our lives would be of lesser quality without them. Alma

  • Oh Alice, I SO agree with you! Our lives would be very much the poorer without trees! And water is the perfect companion! Pleased you like it!

I love the painting and also the setiment expressed – when we packed away my parent’s home and their possessions, it was the plants – some dug carefully from my Mother’s garden, which proved to be the most precious – these held the most memories for me

  • I agree about moving Julie-Ann – I normally want to dig up the whole garden! Thanks for your comment and pleased you like it.
