Vintage Coffee Roses by

Coffee and watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm watercolour paper

  1. Oh, my love’s like a red, red rose,
    That ’s newly sprung in June;
    Oh, my love’s like the melody
    That’s sweetly played in tune.

    - Robert Burns

Some more painting with coffee, inspired by Barbara Glatzeder’s beautiful art, this time with a bit of Cadmium Red added – the rose on the left is from my garden and the one on the right is done from an inverted image of one of Elizabeth Kendall’s roses on FaceBook. (Hope you don’t mind Liz!)

Also see some of Brenda Dow’s coffee art, as well as Elizabeth Kendall’s Barefoot in the Rain

  1. Alma’s Review : “Morning coffee in the rose garden can only be surpassed by a glass of wine in the evening garden when their scent is at its strongest. This lovely image has a hint of the earth beneath their feet and the dying of the light. Red or white?”

    This is great! I am loving your coffee series! It is waking me up to the possibilities!

  • It really is great Ken, even if you just use it for shading, it makes a perfect contrast to the light parts of a painting… thanks for your lovely comment!
