Pen and ink sketch with watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm watercolour paper 12″ × 8″

The White-Eyes (Zosterops pallidus) are regular visitors to my garden here in Tarlton (Gauteng, South Africa). They normally flit around furiously catching the tiniest insects hardly visible to the eye and never sit still for long. Did a quick out-line sketch of this chappie as he gave me the cocky eye and finished it off once they had moved on.

“If we love our children
we must love the earth with tender care
and pass it on, diverse and beautiful,
so that on a warm spring day
10 000 years hence
they can feel peace in a sea of grass,
can watch a bee visit a flower,
can hear a sandpiper call in the sky,
and can find joy in being alive.”

I am a watercolorist living on my little piece of African soil in Tarlton, Gauteng, South Africa. The inspiration for my art is the wonderfully rich variety of Fauna and Flora to be found throughout this beautiful country.

Maree, a wonderful painting, I am always impressed how you paint, so light
The poen speaks right out of my heart. I always feel sad, that so many people don’t take the time to just listen and look, and try to keep these impressions for our children to see.

  • It is rather sad that the fast living pace of today affects everything negatively Heidi, and that many people don’t see everything around them. thank you for your lovely comment.
